Best Award - including those who passed away... 3 candidates for Best Fan in 2023
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the nominees for the Best Fan in the World Award 2023, which included two from South America and one from Australia.
FIFA launched this award in 2016 to highlight an exceptional moment or belief from a fan or group of fans, regardless of league, gender or nationality.
Here are the 2023 Fan of the Year nominees and what they presented:
Fan of the Argentine team Colon de Santa Fe
When TV cameras panned on a Colon de Santa Fe fan, who was holding his son in his arms and breastfeeding him during their team's Argentine league match against Paracas Central. This warm scene reflects the fan's will to develop his son's passion for the club since childhood.
Fran Herndall
Fran Herndall took on an incredible challenge: she ran 32 kilometers a day kicking a ball for 32 days, walking from the Gold Coast to Sydney.
This challenge, undertaken by Fran Herndall, was aimed at inspiring women and girls in sports to dare to dream and achieve themselves at all levels, whether on or off the field. This special 1,000-kilometre trip also raised donations for the Women Sport Australia Association, which is concerned with supporting women's sports.
Miguel Ángel - fan of the Colombian club Muillonarios
Colombian teenager Miguel Angel, who was a huge fan of Millonarios, succeeded in fulfilling his last wish before it was confirmed that he had died due to an unknown illness. On the eve of his departure, this passionate fan was able to meet members of the first team before their league match against Alianza Petrolera.
The date of the ceremony has not yet been announced, and you can vote via the official FIFA website.
